1. Your losses

This tool gives a rough estimate for education only. It is not legal advice, not a fee quote, and does not predict any outcome. Real settlements depend on fault, policy limits, evidence and the insurer. Nothing you type here is stored or sent to us.

How Arizona injury settlements are really valued

Every settlement has three layers. The first is your economic loss: the medical bills you have, the treatment you still need, the wages you lost and anything damaged in the incident. These numbers come from records, which is why keeping every bill matters. Our guide to handling medical bills after an accident explains how liens and billed amounts differ.

The second layer is pain and suffering. Arizona does not cap it in most injury cases, and there is no formula in the law. Insurers use multipliers and daily rates as negotiating anchors. Our articles on suing for pain and suffering and the factors that move settlement values go deeper.

The third layer is what reduces the gross number: your share of fault under comparative negligence, the at-fault party's policy limits, and the deductions at payout. Lost income is often undervalued; see lost wages and lost earning capacity.

Why the fee percentage is only part of the story

Two cases with the same gross settlement can produce very different checks. A lower contingency fee helps, but so does a lawyer who negotiates medical liens down and keeps case costs lean. Ask any firm you interview for all three numbers in writing. Our guide to legal fees in Arizona injury cases covers the questions to ask.

Settlement questions, answered

Most settlements start with your economic losses: medical bills, future treatment, lost wages and property damage. Pain and suffering is then added, often as a multiple of those losses that reflects how serious and lasting the injury is. The final figure is adjusted for fault under Arizona's comparative negligence rule and capped in practice by the available insurance policy limits.

About Our Phoenix Attorney, Gil Hacohen

Gil Hacohen is the founder and principal attorney of Lawyers For Less, PLLC, a Phoenix-based law firm representing individuals and families throughout Arizona. Licensed to practice law in Arizona since 2015, Gil handles personal injury claims involving commercial trucks, delivery vehicles, and other motor vehicle collisions, including cases involving disputed liability, significant injuries, and complex insurance claims, as well as criminal defense, family law, estate planning and business formation matters. He combines hands-on legal representation with a commitment to making quality legal services accessible to everyday people.

Why I do this work

I founded Lawyers For Less in 2015 because I believed that access to quality legal representation should not depend on someone's financial resources. I wanted to build a practice where clients could receive experienced, personalized representation without feeling lost in the legal system.

That philosophy is especially important when the other side has more resources. When someone is seriously injured, charged with a crime, or going through a divorce, they may suddenly find themselves facing an insurance carrier, a prosecutor, or a legal process they don't understand. I believe my clients deserve an attorney who listens to their concerns, carefully examines the evidence, and isn't afraid to challenge the other side's conclusions.
